About our masks
Our masks are made to a high standard, following the official guidelines detailed by the Centre of Disease Control, Cambridge University and Wake Forest. For more details on the various studies, please see below*.
- NB Filter is NOT included ( if required find one that suits you best**).
The masks have not gone formal testing and we do not claim any medical benefit to the wearer. They are designed as a barrier for general use.
When in direct contact with a sufferer of Covid-19, full specialist PPE is recommended, including a mask with a minimum standard of N-95/FFP2. Unfortunately FFP2 masks are generally single use and currently not readily available.
**When choosing a filter (not supplied), please ensure it’s suitable for human use as some contain harmful particles or chemicals especially when breathing through.
* Study in the best materials for face masks
Following research and testing of an extensive range of alternative materials for face masks, by the Centre of Disease Control, Cambridge University and Wake Forest Study, have shown the effectiveness of the use of cotton rich fabrics.
Close weave (thread count warp x weft of 180/ inch eg sheeting) of cotton rich fabrics act as a physical barrier to particles as small as 1 micron, using two layers increases the effectiveness to 74% or better.
In addition, cotton absorbs moisture from the virus thereby killing it, affords good breathability and can be washed and reused.
The disadvantage of other materials including Gore-tex were that though they offered good physical barriers, they were difficult to breath through.
Our fabrics are constantly changing. For current availability, please see the latest range on Etsy by clicking on the images above.
